Actisorb silver 220 (Activated Charcoal) an activated charcoal dressing with silver. It is typically used to trap odour while providing an effective barrier to bacterial penetration, which may help reduce infection. It may also have other uses.

Actisorb silver 220 (Activated Charcoal) is typically used once (a dressing should not be reused) and can remain on the wound for up to 7 days. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of Actisorb silver 220 (Activated Charcoal), or more often than prescribed. Gently apply the dressing to the wound. Either side of the dressing can be placed on the wound. The properties of the dressing are most fully utilised when the dressing makes direct contact with the wound. WARNING: should not be used by patients with a known sensitivity to silver. For external use only. In addition to its desired action, Actisorb silver 220 (Activated Charcoal) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause discoloration (activated charcoal may get into the wound and cause discoloration). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to activated charcoal or silver. The dressing should not be used on third-degree burns. There are very limited data on prolonged and repeated use of silver containing dressings, particularly in children and neonates. Using Actisorb silver 220 (Activated Charcoal) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Pregnant women should not use Actisorb silver 220 (Activated Charcoal).
