Description

Xerese (Acyclovir Hydrocortisone) is a combination of two agents: an antiviral (acyclovir) and a corticosteroid (hydrocortisone). It is typically used to treat the tingling, pain, and swelling that occurs with cold sores, caused by the herpes virus. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Xerese (Acyclovir Hydrocortisone) is typically applied to all the lesions 5 times a day for 5 days. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Acyclovir - hydrocortisone should be started immediately after you notice the first signs or symptoms of a cold sore. To reduce the risk of transferring the infection or irritating the area, avoid vigorously rubbing the cream into the skin. It should be applied only to the lips and around the mouth where a cold sore is developing. Avoid using Xerese (Acyclovir Hydrocortisone) around the eyes, inside the mouth, nose or eyes, on the genitals or the rectal area. Do not cover the cold sore or area around it with a bandage. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: For cutaneous use only, do not use in the eye. Physical contact should be avoided when lesions are present, transmission may also occur in the absence of symptoms.

In addition to its desired action, Xerese (Acyclovir Hydrocortisone) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause local pain, dry, cracked, or peeling lips.
It may cause dryness or flaking of treated skin.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to acyclovir, valacyclovir, hydrocortisone or any component of the formulation, untreated infections of bacterial, viral, tuberculous, or fungal origin.

Taking Xerese (Acyclovir Hydrocortisone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Xerese (Acyclovir Hydrocortisone) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with Xerese (Acyclovir Hydrocortisone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Xerese (Acyclovir Hydrocortisone)
