Description
Nesina (Alogliptin) is an antidiabetic agent. It is typically used with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control by adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high). It may also have other uses.

Nesina (Alogliptin) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. May be taken with or without food. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). In addition to its desired action, Nesina (Alogliptin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause headaches, pain in your upper stomach It may cause kidney function abnormality, nausea and vomiting. It may cause upper respiratory tract infections (coughing, runny nose, sneezing and throat pain), nasopharyngitis (swelling of the nasal passages and the back of the throat). Contraindications: History of serious hypersensitivity to alogliptin or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor. A treatment with Nesina (Alogliptin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
