Kazano (Alogliptin Metformin)

Kazano  (Alogliptin Metformin) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug with food.

WARNING: Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious problem that occurs due to metformin accumulation (i.e., the body doesn't get rid of the medication fast enough) during treatment. since alcohol may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, do not drink a lot of alcohol over the short or long term while taking Kazano  (Alogliptin Metformin). If you experience symptoms of lactic acidosis (e.g., weakness, tiredness, drowsiness, unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain with nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, feeling cold, dizziness, lightheadedness, slow or irregular heartbeat), stop Taking Kazano  (Alogliptin Metformin) and get immediate medical attention. Used this drug with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Used this drug with caution in elderly patients. Used this drug with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).

In addition to its desired action, Kazano  (Alogliptin Metformin) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause headaches, hypoglycemia (a fall in blood sugar to levels below normal).
It may cause diarrhea, back pain, urinary tract infection, hypertension (high blood pressure).
It may cause upper respiratory tract infections (coughing, runny nose, sneezing and throat pain), nasopharyngitis (swelling of the nasal passages and the back of the throat).

Contraindications: Serious hypersensitivity to products that contain alogliptin, metformin, or any component of the formulation, severe kidney impairment, metabolic acidosis (serious electrolyte disorder characterized by an imbalance in the body's acid-base balance) including diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when your body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones). 

Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor.
