Description
Midamor (Amiloride) is an antihypertensive agent. It is typically used alone or in combination with another medication (such as hydrochlorothiazide) to decrease edema (fluid retention) that occurs with heart failure and disorders of the liver. It is also used to lower high blood pressure. It may also have other uses.

Midamor (Amiloride) is usually given once or twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with food or milk. WARNING: May decrease sodium and chloride and cause dehydration or loss of the body water. Hyperkalemia (high potassium levels) may occur, which can be fatal if not corrected, patients at higher risk include those with kidney disease, high blood sugar, and the elderly. Serum potassium levels must be monitored at frequent intervals especially when therapy is initiated, when dosages are changed or with any illness that may cause kidney dysfunction. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Midamor (Amiloride) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dizziness, fatigue and headache. It may cause high potassium levels, weakness, sexual problems, cough and shortness of breath. It may cause stomach pain, change in appetite, constipation, diarrhea, gas pain, nausea and vomiting Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergy to amiloride or any component of the formulation, presence of elevated serum potassium levels, kidney diseases, high blood sugar level patients should not receive amiloride without close, frequent monitoring of serum electrolytes and renal (kidney) function. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Midamor (Amiloride) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
