Description
Fungizone (Amphotericine B) is an antifungal agent. It is typically used for the treatment of invasive fungal infections in patients who cannot take classical antifungal treatments. It may also have other uses.

Fungizone (Amphotericine B)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given once daily and according to body weight: 5 mg/kg/day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Fungizone (Amphotericine B) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Amphotericin B has been determined to be an agent that may cause direct heart toxicity. Acute reactions (including fever and chills) may occur 1-2 hours after starting an intravenous infusion. These reactions are usually more common with the first few doses and generally diminish with future doses. Infusion has been rarely associated with low blood pressure, irregular heartbeats and heart arrest. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Fungizone (Amphotericine B) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause chills, fever and many organ failures. It may cause hypotension (low blood pressure), cardiac arrest (when the heart stops beating suddenly), hypertension (high blood pressure) and chest pain. It may cause headaches, pain and skin rash. It may cause shortness of breath, lung infections and stomach bleeding. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergy to amphotericin B or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Fungizone (Amphotericine B) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
