Description
Emend (Aprepitant) is an antiemetic agent. It is typically used with other medications to help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy (cancer treatment). It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Emend (Aprepitant) is typically used 30 minutes prior to chemotherapy on day 1. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Emend (Aprepitant) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: EMEND may reduce the efficacy of hormonal contraceptives (hormonal contraceptives are birth control medicines. These medicines help prevent pregnancy). Alternative or backup methods should be used during and for 1 month following the last dose of EMEND. In addition to its desired action, Emend (Aprepitant) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, stomach pain, upset stomach, vomiting. It may cause headaches, hair loss, and loss of appetite. It may cause cough, low blood pressure, fatigue, sleep disorders. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to aprepitant or any component of the formulation, concurrent use with Pimozide. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor. A treatment with Emend (Aprepitant) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
