Description

Isopto Atropine (Atropine) is an ophthalmic agent. It is typically used to treat the inflammation of the uvea (uveitis), a structure of the eye, and to temporarily freeze the muscles of the eye for a test known as cycloplegic refraction. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Isopto Atropine (Atropine)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given once to twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Use with caution in patients with brain damage, these patients are particularly susceptible to brain or mental disturbances and heart and stomach toxicity from systemic absorption of atropine. Photophobia or fear of light and blurred vision may last up to 2 weeks due to pupil unresponsiveness and cycloplegia (paralysis of the ciliary muscle of the eye). High blood pressure may occur due to systemic absorption following eye instillation.

In addition to its desired action, Isopto Atropine (Atropine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause flushing, hypotension (low blood pressure), increased blood pressure, and tachycardia (increased heart rate).
It may cause irritability, restlessness, blurred vision, eye pain, eye water retention and stinging of eyes.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity (severe allergy) to atropine or any component of the formulation, high eye pressure and angle-closure glaucoma (narrowing or closure of the anterior chamber angle).

Taking Isopto Atropine (Atropine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Isopto Atropine (Atropine) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with Isopto Atropine (Atropine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Isopto Atropine (Atropine)
