Description
Blexten (Bilastine) is an antihistaminic agent. It is typically used for the treatment of chronic spontaneous urticaria: reddened, itchy welts skin that may be triggered by exposure to certain foods, medications or other substance and for the treatment of allergic rhinitis: a group of symptoms affecting the nose. It may also have other uses.

Blexten (Bilastine)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with water 1 hour before or 2 hours after intake of food or fruit juices. WARNING: Bilastine can cause changes to the normal rhythm of the heart, including an irregular heartbeat called QT prolongation. QT prolongation is a serious life-threatening condition that can cause fainting, seizures, and sudden death. Use caution in patients with a history of heart irregular heartbeat, significant low heart rate, a family history of sudden heart death, electrolyte abnormalities (low potassium and low magnesium levels), or with concomitant use of other drugs that affect the heart muscle time to recharge between beats. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Blexten (Bilastine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may drowsiness, headache and dizziness It may cause upper stomach pain Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergy to bilastine or any component of the formulation, history of QTc interval prolongation which means the heart muscle takes longer than normal to recharge between beats, congenital long QT syndromes means people who are born with a heart muscle that takes longer than normal to recharge between beats should never be on this medicine. Taking Blexten (Bilastine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Blexten (Bilastine) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Blexten (Bilastine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
