Description

SDZ Brimonidine (Brimonidine) is an antiglaucoma agent. It is typically used for the reduction of elevated intraocular (inside the eye) pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension (high pressure in the eye). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

SDZ Brimonidine (Brimonidine) is typically is used twice daily (approximately every 12 hours). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Remove contact lenses prior to administration, wait 15 minutes before re-inserting if using products containing benzalkonium chloride. Separate administration of other ophthalmic (eye) agents by at least 5 minutes. Do not touch tip of container to any surface, the eyelids, or the surrounding area.

WARNING: Inadvertent contamination of multiple-dose ophthalmic solutions has caused bacterial keratitis (inflammation of the cornea of the eye, the cornea is the transparent layer forming the front of the eye). It may impair physical or mental abilities, patients must be cautioned about performing tasks which require mental alertness (e.g., operating machinery or driving).

In addition to its desired action, SDZ Brimonidine (Brimonidine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause burning, stinging, or irritated eyes upon instillation of eye drops
It may cause discoloration of white part of the eye, drowsiness or tiredness, dry eyes

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to brimonidine or any component of the formulation, neonates and infants <2 years, concomitant MAO inhibitor therapy (antidepressants)

Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
