Description
Cortiment (Budesonide) is a corticosteroid. It is typically used by adults for the treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, an inflammation of the large intestine (colon) and the rectum (the last several inches of the large intestine closest to the anus). It may also have other uses.

Cortiment (Budesonide) is typically taken once in the morning after breakfast. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. The tablet must not be broken, crushed or chewed. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking Cortiment. These can increase the levels of the drug in your blood and affect the way it works. Prolonged use of corticosteroids may increase the incidence of secondary infections (an infection that occurs during or after treatment for another infection). This medication may cause psychiatric disturbances, including euphoria (a feeling of intense happiness), insomnia (trouble sleeping), mood swings, personality changes, or severe depression. Use with caution in patients with heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes mellitus, liver or kidney impairment, seizure disorders, or thyroid (a gland in the neck) disease. In addition to its desired action, Cortiment (Budesonide) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause cold symptoms, infections, feeling sick, or headache. It may cause stomach pain, dry mouth, indigestion, nausea, or diarrhea. It may cause palpitations (pounding heart beats), muscle weakness or pain, or fatigue. It may cause rash, itchiness, or weight gain. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Budesonide or any component of the formulation. Taking Cortiment (Budesonide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product.
