Description
Dostinex (Cabergoline) is anti-prolactin agent. It is typically used to treat different types of medical problems caused by high prolactin levels (a hormone produced by a gland in the brain). It is also used to prevent the onset of normal lactation (milk production) in cases where there is a medical need to prevent lactation. It may also have other uses.

Dostinex (Cabergoline) is typically given once or twice a week. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It should be taken with food. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Cabergoline may cause psychiatric disorders (e.g., aggression, psychotic behavior, and loss impulse control). Use with caution in patients with heart (cardiovascular) disease, liver disease, stomach bleeding or ulcers (sores), and Raynaud syndrome (reduced blood flow to the fingers). In addition to its desired action, Dostinex (Cabergoline) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause constipation, nausea, vomiting, or heartburn. It may cause dizziness, headache, or tiredness. It may cause hot flushes, or abdominal pain. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Cabergoline, Ergot derivatives (similar agents), or any component of the formulation. Patients with uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure), history of cardiac valvular disorders (disorders of heart valves), history of pulmonary (lungs), pericardial (lining of the heart), or retroperitoneal fibrotic disorders (abnormal formation of tissues behind the wall of the abdomen) should not use Cabergoline. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Dostinex (Cabergoline) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
