Description

Ovidrel (Choriogonadotropin Alfa) is a hormonal agent. It is typically used as part of a treatment program for certain fertility problems in women. This medication provides the hormone (hCG), which stimulates the release of a mature egg (ovulation) and helps you become pregnant. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Ovidrel (Choriogonadotropin Alfa) is typically administered as 250 mcg given 1 day following the last dose of follicle stimulating agent. Use only after adequate follicular development has been determined. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. For subcutaneous (under the skin) use only, inject into stomach area.
WARNING: This medication may increase the chance of blood clot formation, causing a reduction of blood flow to organs or the extremities. Multiple births may occur with fertility medications. Talk to your doctor about the risks of multiple births before beginning treatment. Some women using Ovidrel (Choriogonadotropin Alfa) may experience ovarian enlargement associated with abdominal bloating or pain. In most cases these symptoms go away without treatment within 2 or 3 weeks. If you experience these symptoms contact your doctor.
In addition to its desired action, Ovidrel (Choriogonadotropin Alfa) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause ovarian cyst, ovarian hyperstimulation (exaggerated response to excess hormones)
It may cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting It may cause pain at injection site, bruising at injection site, injection site reaction, inflammation at injection site Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the hormone preparations or any component of the formulation, primary ovarian failure, uncontrolled thyroid (gland in the neck) or adrenal (gland on top of the kidneys) dysfunction, pituitary tumor (an abnormal growth in the pituitary gland, the pituitary is a small gland in the brain), abnormal uterine (womb) bleeding, ovarian cyst or enlargement of undetermined origin, sex hormone dependent tumors, pregnancy
Taking Ovidrel (Choriogonadotropin Alfa) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Pregnant women should not use this product. A treatment with Ovidrel (Choriogonadotropin Alfa) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Ovidrel (Choriogonadotropin Alfa)
