Description

Alvesco (Ciclesonide) is a corticosteroid inhaler agent. It is typically used as maintenance treatment of asthma as prophylactic (preventive) therapy in patients ≥12 years of age. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Alvesco (Ciclesonide) is usually taken twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Immediate hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., angioedema (swelling underneath the skin), bronchospasm (tightening of the muscles that line the airways in your lungs causing difficulty breathing), rash) may occur, discontinue use if reaction occurs. Local mouth infections have been reported, if this occurs, treat appropriately while continuing therapy. Patients should be instructed to rinse their mouths with water without swallowing after each use. Prolonged use of corticosteroids may also increase the incidence of secondary infection. Ocular (eye) diseases might develop. Consider routine eye exams in chronic users. Orally inhaled corticosteroids may cause a reduction in growth velocity in pediatric patients. Growth should be routinely monitored in pediatric patients. A gradual tapering of dose may be required prior to discontinuing therapy. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning.

In addition to its desired action, Alvesco (Ciclesonide) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause headaches, infections in the nose, facial edema (water retention) and fungal infections (in the mouth).
It may cause dizziness, fatigue, voice disorder, muscle chest pain and upper respiratory tract infections (coughing, runny nose, sneezing and throat pain).

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ciclesonide or any component of the formulation, status asthmaticus (a severe condition in which asthma attacks follow one another without pause) or other acute asthma episodes requiring intensive measures, untreated fungal, bacterial, or tuberculosis infections of the respiratory tract, moderate to severe bronchiectasis (long-term condition where the airways of the lungs become abnormally widened).

Taking Alvesco (Ciclesonide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with Alvesco (Ciclesonide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Alvesco (Ciclesonide)
