Description
Apo Clarithromycin XL (Clarithromycin extended-release) is an antibiotic. It is typically used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, intestines, ears, skin, and throat. It may also have other uses.

Apo Clarithromycin XL (Clarithromycin extended-release) is typically taken two to three times a day. This medication's dosage depends on your condition (usual range: 250 mg - 1000 mg). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It may be taken with or without food. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Long-term use of Clarithromycin may cause it not to work anymore in the future (resistance), more bacteria and fungi to grow (superinfection), and bacteria that do not die (resistance). Clarithromycin only treats bacterial infections, not viral infections such as the common cold. In the case of kidney disease, the dose should be modified accordingly. Patients who have or have had QT prolongation (an abnormal electrical activity of the heart) or an abnormal heart rhythm or have untreated hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood) should not use Clarithromycin. In addition to its desired action, Apo Clarithromycin XL (Clarithromycin extended-release) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause changes in the sense of taste (dysgeusia), diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting. It may cause abnormal liver function tests (liver damage) It may cause fungal infections of the skin, nails, mouth, vagina, or urinary tract. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Clarithromycin or any component of the formulation or other macrolide antibiotic (e.g., Erythromycin, azithromycin). Do not use this product if you have a history of cholestatic jaundice (yellow discoloration of skin and/or eyes) or liver problems after using Clarithromycin. Do not use Clarithromycin if you are currently taking Cisapride, pimozide, Ergot alkaloids (e.g., Ergotamine, Dihydroergotamine), Lomitapide, or Hmg - CoA reductase inhibitors (e.g., Lovastatin, Simvastatin). Do not use Clarithromycin if you are taking Colchicine and suffer from kidney or liver problems. Taking Apo Clarithromycin XL (Clarithromycin extended-release) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Apo Clarithromycin XL (Clarithromycin extended-release) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
