Description
Apo Colesevelam (Colesevelam) is a cholesterol-lowering agent. It is typically used along with changes to diet and exercise to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. Colesevelam is used by people who are unable to tolerate or who have not had enough of a response to a statin (a class of cholesterol-lowering medicines that works in the liver). It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Apo Colesevelam (Colesevelam) is typically taken as 3 tablets twice a day with meals or 6 tablets a day with a meal, if use alone. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It should be taken with food. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Colesevelam may cause or worsen constipation. Fecal impaction (a large mass of stool that may be lodged in the colon) and worsening of hemorrhoids (swollen veins in the last several inches of the large intestine) may occur. Colesevelam can interact with other medications, such as birth control pills, cyclosporine (a medication that suppresses the immunity), and warfarin (an anticoagulant). If you take any of these medications, you should wait at least 4 hours before taking colesevelam. It may increase triglyceride (blood fat) levels. In addition to its desired action, Apo Colesevelam (Colesevelam) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause abdominal pain, abnormal stools, constipation, diarrhea, or worsening hemorrhoids. It may cause flatulence (gas), headache, indigestion, or nausea. It may cause muscle pain, weakness, runny nose, or sore throat. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to colesevelam or any component of the formulation. Do not use in case of history of bowel obstruction (blockage in your intestines), serum triglyceride concentrations of more than 500 mg/dL, or history of hypertriglyceridemia-induced pancreatitis (inflammation in the pancreas caused by high levels of triglycerides). Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Apo Colesevelam (Colesevelam) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Apo Colesevelam (Colesevelam)
