Description
Neoral (Cyclosporine) is an immunosuppressant agent. It is typically used to prevent the rejection of organ transplants and bone marrow (the soft, spongy tissue that produces blood cells and is found in the center of most bones) transplants by suppressing the body’s natural defence, the immune system. It is also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, which is thought to be caused by the body’s own immune system attacking the joints of the body. Cyclosporine is also used to treat severe psoriasis (a skin disease that causes red, itchy scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp) when other treatments have not been effective. It may also have other uses.

Neoral (Cyclosporine) is typically taken in 2 divided doses, the dose is based on body weight. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. The oral solution should be diluted with a small amount of orange or apple juice, stirred, then swallowed immediately. Use a small amount of the juice to rinse the cup, stir, and swallow the contents again, to ensure the entire dose is taken. WARNING: May cause hypertension (high blood pressure), risk is increased with increasing doses/duration. increased risk of infection with use. increased risk of lymphomas (a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's germ-fighting network) and other malignancies (cancers) particularly skin cancers. Monitor renal (kidney) function closely In addition to its desired action, Neoral (Cyclosporine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause acne or oily skin, changes to menstrual bleeding It may cause constipation, decreased appetite, diarrhea Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to cyclosporine or any component of the formulation. Rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis patients with abnormal renal function, uncontrolled hypertension, or malignancies. Concomitant treatment with PUVA or UVB therapy, methotrexate, other immunosuppressive agents, coal tar, or radiation therapy are also contraindications for use in patients with psoriasis. Taking Neoral (Cyclosporine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Neoral (Cyclosporine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
