Description
Marvelon 28 (Desogestrel Ethinyl Estradiol) is a combined oral contraceptive agent, containing an estrogen and progestin combination. It is typically used to prevent pregnancy. It may also have other uses.

Marvelon 28 (Desogestrel Ethinyl Estradiol) is typically given once a day, in the order presented in the . However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It should be taken at the same time every day, with or without food. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. Important: Follow the instructions on the label and the sequence of the tablets. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Cigarette smoking while taking oral contraceptives increases the risk of serious cardiovascular events. Marvelon may cause bleeding irregularities such as amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), spotting, and unscheduled bleeding, primarily during the first 3 months of therapy. Using such medication may increase the risk of several serious conditions including myocardial infarction (heart attack), thromboembolism (blood clot that breaks loose and travels to another part of the body), stroke, liver or cervical cancer. Use with caution in patients with high risk for depression, diabetes, or heart disease. In addition to its desired action, Marvelon 28 (Desogestrel Ethinyl Estradiol) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause nausea, diarrhea, weight gain, or headaches. It may cause mood swings, depression, breast tenderness, or breakthrough bleeding (vaginal bleeding or spotting that occurs between menstrual periods or while pregnant). It may cause melasma (brown or blue-gray patches or freckle-like spots on the skin). It may cause an increase in blood pressure (hypertension) or blurred vision. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Ethinyl Estradiol, Desogestrel, or any component of the formulation. Combination oral contraceptives such as Marvelon are contraindicated in women who have breast cancer, endometrial (lining of the uterus, which is the womb) cancer, or other estrogen- or progestin-dependent cancers (current or a history of), liver tumors (benign or malignant) or liver disease, cholestatic jaundice (yellow discoloration of skin and/or eyes) of pregnancy or with prior use of oral contraceptive pill, undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding. Pregnant women should not use this product. People who are taking hepatitis C (liver disease caused by a virus) drug combinations containing Ombitasvir, paritaprevir, ritonavir with or without Dasabuvir should not take Marvelon. Using Marvelon is also contraindicated in patients at high risk of arterial or venous thrombotic diseases (blood clots in the arteries or veins). Taking Marvelon 28 (Desogestrel Ethinyl Estradiol) during pregnancy is harmful for the baby. Combination hormonal contraceptives are used to prevent pregnancy, treatment should be discontinued if pregnancy occurs. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Marvelon 28 (Desogestrel Ethinyl Estradiol) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
