Description
Proglycem (Diazoxide) is a hyperglycemic agent. It is typically used to treat low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) caused by certain cancers or other conditions. It may also have other uses.

Proglycem (Diazoxide)'s dosage depends on the condition/body weight (usual range: 3-8 mg/kg/day). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. It can be taken with or without food. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment. Use with caution in patients with hyperuricemia (an excess of uric acid in your blood). In addition to its desired action, Proglycem (Diazoxide) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause abdominal pain, acute pancreatitis (sudden inflammation of the pancreas), diarrhea. It may cause blurred vision, headache, fever, dizziness, sleep disorders. It may cause low blood pressure, sodium and fluid retention (extra sodium and fluid in the body), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar level). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to diazoxide, to similar agent, or to any component of the formulation, functional hypoglycemia (low blood sugar caused by abnormal function--not disease -- of the pancreas). Taking Proglycem (Diazoxide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Proglycem (Diazoxide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
