Description

Tivicay (Dolutegravir) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used in combination with other medications to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV, a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Tivicay (Dolutegravir) is typically used once or twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug with or without food.

WARNING: Patients with hepatitis B or C (liver infections caused by a virus) may be at increased risk for worsening or development of transaminase (liver enzyme) elevations with use of TIVICAY. Appropriate laboratory testing prior to initiating therapy and monitoring for hepatotoxicity (liver toxicity) during therapy with TIVICAY is recommended in patients with hepatic (liver) disease such as hepatitis B or C.

In addition to its desired action, Tivicay (Dolutegravir) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause diarrhea, headache, nausea.
It may cause hyperglycemia (high blood sugar level), insomnia (difficulty falling asleep).
It may cause joint pain, muscle pain, weight gain.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to dolutegravir or any component of the formulation, concurrent use with dofetilide (drug used to correct irregular heartbeat).

Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor.
