Description

Lixiana (Edoxaban) is a blood thinner. It is typically used to lower the risk of stroke (when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduced) caused by a blood clot in people with a heart rhythm disorder called atrial fibrillation. It is also used to treat a type of blood clot called deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot that forms in a deep vein of the body), which can lead to blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism). It may also have other uses.

Lixiana (Edoxaban) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. This drug may be taken with food or on an empty stomach.
WARNING: Lixiana increases the risk of bleeding and can cause serious, potentially fatal (causing death) bleeding. When severe bleeding occur, treatment with Lixiana must be discontinued. LIXIANA should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate hepatic (liver) impairment. LIXIANA should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment.
In addition to its desired action, Lixiana (Edoxaban) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause severe bleeding, skin rash, itchy skin.
It may cause abnormal hepatic (liver) function tests.
It may cause anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues).
Contraindications: Active pathological bleeding.
Taking Lixiana (Edoxaban) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
A treatment with Lixiana (Edoxaban) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Lixiana (Edoxaban)
