Additional information
Lovenox (Enoxaparin)'s dosage depends on the condition/body weight. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Lovenox (Enoxaparin) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. Your doctor may want you to continue your Lovenox injections at home for a few days. If so, he/she or a nurse will show you how to administer your Lovenox injections before you are released from the hospital. It is essential that you follow these instructions exactly. Before injecting the drug, wash your hands and clean the area of skin where you will inject with an alcohol swab. Do not rub the area to be injected. Lie down and pinch a fold of skin (usually in the lower abdomen at least 5 cm away from your belly button and out towards the sides) between your finger and thumb. Choose a different place of the lower abdomen for each injection. Push the entire needle vertically into the skin in one smooth quick motion, and then press down on the syringe plunger to inject the medication. Make sure you are holding the skin fold the entire time you are injecting the needle and pressing down on the syringe plunger. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Use with extreme caution or avoid in patients with history of heparin‐induced thrombocytopenia (an adverse reaction to the drug heparin (anticoagulant agent) resulting in an abnormally low amount of platelets. Platelets, also called thrombocytes, are small blood cells that help blood to clot). Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment. Use with caution in the elderly patients. Use with extreme caution in patients at increased risk of hemorrhage (bleeding). Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) insufficiency. In addition to its desired action, Lovenox (Enoxaparin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause abdominal pain, anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues), chest pain, confusion, dizziness, headache. It may cause bleeding (such as nosebleeds, blood in the urine, bleeding gums, coughing or throwing up of blood, easy bruising, increased menstrual bleeding). It may cause liver problems, fever, bleeding at injection site, fever, nausea. Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to enoxaparin, heparin, pork products, or any component of the formulation, history of immune mediated heparin-induced thrombocytopenia in the past 100 days, active major bleeding. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Lovenox (Enoxaparin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Lovenox (Enoxaparin)
