Description
Aptiom (Eslicarbazepine) is an anticonvulsant agent (drugs that prevent or reduce the severity and frequency of seizures. Seizure is a sudden attack of brain activity that causes you to lose control of your actions). It is typically used alone or with other medications to treat partial-onset seizures (partial onset seizure affects only a part of your brain) by adults and children who are at least 4 years old. It may also have other uses.

Aptiom (Eslicarbazepine) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug with or without food. WARNING: Suicidal Behavior and Ideation: Monitor for suicidal thoughts or behavior. Hyponatremia (a low sodium concentration in the blood): Monitor sodium levels in patients at risk or patients experiencing hyponatremia symptoms (e.g., nausea/vomiting, malaise, headache, confusion, irritability, muscle weakness/spasms, or increase in seizure frequency or severity). Use with caution in elderly patients. In addition to its desired action, Aptiom (Eslicarbazepine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dizziness (weak or unsteady), drowsiness (feeling abnormally sleepy during the day), headache. It may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, diplopia (a disorder of vision in which two images of a single object are seen). It may cause hypertension (high blood pressure), skin rash, insomnia (difficulty falling asleep). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to eslicarbazepine, similar agents, or any component of the formulation. Taking Aptiom (Eslicarbazepine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Aptiom (Eslicarbazepine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
