Description

Premarin (Estrogens Conjugated) is a hormonal agent. It is typically used for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding caused by hormonal imbalance when your doctor has found no serious cause of the bleeding. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Premarin (Estrogens Conjugated)'s dosage depends on the condition. The dose may be repeated in 6 to 12 hours, if deemed necessary by your healthcare professional. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It will be given to you by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital or clinical setting. It can be injected in a muscle or in a vein. WARNING: Premarin Intravenous should be used only under the supervision of a doctor, with regular follow-up at least once a year to identify side effects associated with its use. Your first follow-up visit should be within 3 to 6 months of starting treatment. Estrogens with or without progestins (other hormonal agents) should be prescribed at the lowest effect doses and for the shortest duration. Estrogens with or without progestins should not be used for the prevention of heart disease or stroke. There is an increased risk of stroke and blood clots in the large veins with the use of estrogen-alone therapy. Regular checkups by your doctor are recommended to monitor your blood pressure as this drug may increase blood pressure. If you have depression or a history of depression, discuss with your doctor.
In addition to its desired action, Premarin (Estrogens Conjugated) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause breast pain, vaginal bleeding or spotting, bloating, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain It may cause weight gain, dizziness, headache (including migraine) It may cause nervousness, rash Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to this drug or any component of the formulation, undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding, deep vein thrombosis (when blood clot develops in the deep veins) or pulmonary embolism (when a part of the clot breaks off and travels to the lungs) (current or history of), active or history of arterial thromboembolic disease (e.g., stroke), breast cancer, estrogen-dependent tumor (known or suspected), hepatic (liver) impairment or disease, known protein C, protein S, antithrombin deficiency or other known thrombophilic disorders (blood disorder that makes the blood more likely to clot), pregnancy
Taking Premarin (Estrogens Conjugated) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
