Brenzys (Etanercept Prefilled Syringe)

Brenzys (Etanercept Prefilled Syringe) is typically taken once or twice a week. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. This medication is given by subcutaneous (under the skin) injection, usually in the front of the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen. Rotate injection sites. For a more comfortable injection, allow to reach room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes prior to injection, do not remove the needle cover while allowing product to reach room temperature. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Very rarely, people taking etanercept and similar medications have developed leukemia or lymphoma, types of blood cancer. This medication can increase the risk of developing an infection, including serious infections such as sepsis (bloodstream infection), chicken pox (an infectious disease causing a mild fever and a rash of itchy inflamed pimples which turn to blisters and then loose scabs), fungal infections, and tuberculosis (bacterial infection). Etanercept can cause a reduced number of platelets (cells involved in clotting) in the blood, which can make it difficulty to stop cuts from bleeding. It may cause low levels of red blood cells, which deliver oxygen to organs (anemia). In addition to its desired action, Brenzys (Etanercept Prefilled Syringe) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause headaches and pain, itching, redness, or swelling at the site of injection.
It may cause sores in the mouth and upper respiratory infections (such as colds, sore throats).
It may cause signs of an allergic reaction (such as difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the face or throat). It may cause seizures and symptoms of a severe infection (such as fever, shaking or chills, fast heartbeat, quick breathing, confusion, or skin rash).
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to etanercept or any component of the formulation, patients at risk of sepsis syndrome (e.g., immunocompromised (impaired immune system), HIV (a virus that damages the cells in your immune system) positive). Sepsis syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's response to an infection damages its own tissues.
Taking Brenzys (Etanercept Prefilled Syringe) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Brenzys (Etanercept Prefilled Syringe) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
