Description

Evra Patch (Ethinyl Estradiol Norelgestromin) is a combination birth control pill (oral contraceptive) that contains a progestin (norelgestromin) and estrogen (ethinyl estradiol). It is typically used to prevent pregnancy. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Evra Patch (Ethinyl Estradiol Norelgestromin) is typically applied once per week. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. New patches should be applied on the same day each week. Apply to clean, dry, intact, healthy skin on the buttock, abdomen, upper outer arm, or back. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with risk factors for heart disease. Do not apply to the breasts or to skin that is red, irritated, or cut. Alternate application sites, do not apply to the same place as the previous patch. Do not apply make-up, creams, lotions, powders, or other topical products to the skin where the patch will be placed. Do not cut, damage or alter the size of the patch, contraceptive efficacy may be impaired.
In addition to its desired action, Evra Patch (Ethinyl Estradiol Norelgestromin) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause skin irritation at the application site, nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating It may cause breast tenderness, swelling of the ankles/feet (fluid retention), or weight change may occur It may cause vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting) may occur, especially during the first few months of use
Contraindications: Breast cancer or other estrogen- or progestin-dependent cancer (current or a history of), liver tumors (benign or malignant) or liver disease, pregnancy, undiagnosed abnormal uterine bleeding, concomitant use of hepatitis C drug combinations containing ombitasvir/ritonavir, with or without dasabuvir. Use is also contraindicated in patients at high risk of arterial or venous thrombotic diseases (clots in the veins and arteries) for example, patients with: coronary artery disease (chest pain or discomfort and shortness of breath), diabetes mellitus with vascular disease (blood vessels disease), uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure), patients >35 years of age who smoke.
Taking Evra Patch (Ethinyl Estradiol Norelgestromin) during pregnancy is harmful for the baby. Combination hormonal contraceptives are used to prevent pregnancy, treatment should be discontinued if pregnancy occurs. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
