Description
Zarontin (Ethosuximide) is an anticonvulsant agent. It is typically used to prevent and control a certain type of seizure (absence or petit mal seizure), which is an abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It may also have other uses.

Zarontin (Ethosuximide) is typically used up to three times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with food or milk to decrease stomach upset WARNING: Use with extreme caution in patients with liver impairment and renal (kidney) impairment. Anticonvulsants should not be discontinued abruptly because of the possibility of increasing seizure frequency, therapy should be withdrawn gradually to minimize the potential of increased seizure frequency, unless safety concerns require a more rapid withdrawal. In addition to its desired action, Zarontin (Ethosuximide) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause upset stomach, nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, diarrhea, weight loss It may cause headaches, dizziness, trouble concentrating, feeling tired, swelling in your tongue or gums Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ethosuximide, succinimides (similar agents), or any component of the formulation. Taking Zarontin (Ethosuximide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Zarontin (Ethosuximide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
