Description
SDZ Famciclovir (Famciclovir) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used for the treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) in immunocompetent (normal immune system) patients. It is also used for the treatment and suppression of recurrent episodes of genital herpes (a disease characterized by blisters in the genital area) and herpes labialis (cold sores) in immunocompetent patients. Famciclovir is also used for the treatment of recurrent orolabial (oral cavity)/genital herpes simplex in adult patients with HIV. It may also have other uses.

SDZ Famciclovir (Famciclovir) is typically given two or three times a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It may be taken with or without food. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Use caution in patients with kidney disease (dose may be adjusted). In addition to its desired action, SDZ Famciclovir (Famciclovir) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause headaches, migraine (severe headache), or fatigue. It may cause diarrhea, gas, nausea, or vomiting. It may cause painful menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea). It may cause neutropenia (blood condition characterized by low levels of white blood cells that protect your body from infections, which increases your risk for many types of infection). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Famciclovir, penciclovir, or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with SDZ Famciclovir (Famciclovir) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
