Additional information
Fampyra (Fampridine)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with or without food. WARNING: Assess risk of seizure (a sudden attack of illness, especially a stroke which means when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduced) prior to treatment initiation, use caution or avoid in patients who may have history of seizure threshold due to predisposing factors. Urinary tract infections were reported frequent in patients receiving fampridine. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Fampyra (Fampridine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause urinary tract infections, constipation, dyspepsia (a pain or an uncomfortable feeling in the upper middle part of your stomach area) and nausea. It may cause dizziness, headache, back pain and insomnia. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to fampridine, or any component of the formulation, history of seizure (a sudden attack of illness, especially a stroke which means when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduced), moderate or severe kidney impairment. Taking Fampyra (Fampridine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Fampyra (Fampridine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
