Description
Gilenya (Fingolimod) is an immunosuppressant agent (a class of drugs that reduce, the strength of the body’s immune system). It is typically used to treat relapsing (recurrent) multiple sclerosis (a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord) by adults, children and adolescents aged 10 years and older. It may also have other uses.

Gilenya (Fingolimod) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer this drug with or without food. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with severe renal (kidney) problems. In addition to its desired action, Gilenya (Fingolimod) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, influenza, back pain. It may cause high blood pressure, alopecia (hair loss), dyspnea (shortness of breath). It may cause headaches, cough, blurred vision, back pain, bradycardia (a heart rate that’s too slow). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to fingolimod or any component of the formulation, some serious heart problems (myocardial infarction, unstable angina, stroke, transient ischemic attack, decompensated heart failure requiring hospitalization) concurrent use of a class Ia or III antiarrhythmic (drugs used to treat abnormal heartbeats). Taking Gilenya (Fingolimod) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Gilenya (Fingolimod) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
