Description
Soframycin (Framycetin Gramicidin Phenylephrine) is a combination of two antibiotics (Framycetin and Gramicidin) and a decongestant (Phenylephrine) which decreases the swelling of your nose. It is typically used to treat nasal congestion (stuffy nose) and nose infections caused by certain bacteria. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Soframycin (Framycetin Gramicidin Phenylephrine) is typically used as two sprays in each nostril every 4 hours. A maximum of 12 sprays in each nostril (6 times) is allowed per day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Make sure to rinse spray tips in hot water after each use in order to prevent repeated infection. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Do not use Soframycin for more than 3-5 days to prevent rebound congestion (constant nasal stuffiness that develops from the overuse of nasal sprays that contain a decongestant medicine). Prolonged use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfections (a second infection superimposed on an earlier one). Use with caution in patients with hypertension (high blood pressure) or heart disease, diabetes mellitus (high blood sugar), thyroid (gland in the neck) disease, prostate hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and urinary obstruction (blockage of the flow of urine out of the body). In addition to its desired action, Soframycin (Framycetin Gramicidin Phenylephrine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause chest pain, flushing, or palpitations (a rapid, strong, or irregular heartbeat). It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, pain, feeling of heaviness, or headache. It may cause nausea, xerostomia (dry mouth), sore throat, abdominal distress, diarrhea, or vomiting. It may cause weakness, jaw pain, jaw pressure, jaw tightness, neck pain, neck pressure, or neck tightness. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Framycetin, Gramicidin, or other aminoglycosides (same antibiotic class), phenylephrine, or any component of the formulation. The concurrent use with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors (antidepressants) is contraindicated. Do not use in case of narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure inside of the eye), or rhinitis sicca (chronic inflammation of the nose). Children less than 2 years of age should not use Soframycin (Framycetin Gramicidin Phenylephrine). Taking Soframycin (Framycetin Gramicidin Phenylephrine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Soframycin (Framycetin Gramicidin Phenylephrine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Soframycin (Framycetin Gramicidin Phenylephrine)
