Description
Zymar (Gatifloxacin) is an antibiotic. It is typically used for the treatment of bacterial eye infection known by conjunctivitis (an inflammation or infection of the transparent membrane (conjunctiva) that lines your eyelid). It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Zymar (Gatifloxacin) is usually given 4 to 8 times daily. Gatifloxacin eye drops are usually used for one week. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Contact lenses should not be worn during treatment of ophthalmic (eye) infections. Prolonged use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection (additional infection). If superinfection is suspected, changing treatment is recommended. For topical ophthalmic (eye) use only. Do not inject ophthalmic solution subconjunctivally (the clear moist membrane that covers the inner surfaces of the eyelids and the front of eyeball), or introduce directly into the anterior chamber of the eye. In addition to its desired action, Zymar (Gatifloxacin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause eye discharge, eye irritation, eye pain, eye redness and dysgeusia (bad taste in the mouth). It may cause headaches and swelling around the iris (the colored circle that surrounds the pupil of the eye). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to gatifloxacin, other quinolones (similar agents), or any component of the formulation Taking Zymar (Gatifloxacin) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Zymar (Gatifloxacin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
