Description

Durolane (Hyaduronic Acid) is an antirheumatic agent. It is typically used for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (most common form of arthritis or the swelling and tenderness of one or more of your joints) of the knee in patients who have failed nonpharmacologic treatment or simple analgesics. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Durolane (Hyaduronic Acid) is typically used once. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It will be given to you by your doctor or a nurse in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Not for use in infected joints, do not use disinfectants containing quaternary ammonium salts for skin preparation (may cause precipitation of hyaluronate). Remove joint fluid if present, prior to injection, do not use in cases of severe intra-articular effusion. Do not inject intravascularly (inside the vessels) or into synovium (connective tissue that lines the inside of the joint capsule). Use with caution if venous or lymphatic stasis is present in the leg. Transient increases in reddening or inflammation, pain, or sensation of heat may occur after injection into the knee in patients with inflammatory arthritis (the swelling and tenderness of one or more of your joints). Avoid prolonged weight bearing activities for 48 hours after injection. Use Durolane with caution in patients with pre-existing chondrocalcinosis (calcium deposition in cartilage), may cause acute attack.
In addition to its desired action, Durolane (Hyaduronic Acid) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause skin discoloration at injection site, skin rash and bruise (more common in older patients and means an injury appearing as an area of discolored skin on the body, caused by a blow or impact rupturing underlying blood vessels).
It may cause redness at injection site, bleeding at injection site, site, itching at injection site, muscle rigidity at injection site, pain at injection site, residual mass at injection site, swelling at injection site and tenderness at injection site.
It may cause headaches and water retention.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergy to hyaluronate or any component of the formulation, knee joint infections or infections or skin diseases at the site of injection.
Taking Durolane (Hyaduronic Acid) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Durolane (Hyaduronic Acid) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Durolane (Hyaduronic Acid) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Durolane (Hyaduronic Acid)
