Description

Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone Zinc) is a corticosteroid. It is typically used to treat hemorrhoids (swollen veins in the rectum (the last several inches of the large intestine)). It may also be used to treat discomfort after surgery to the anal area (opening of the rectum outside of the body) and other conditions affecting the anal area. It works by reducing swelling, irritation, and itching. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone Zinc) is typically applied in the morning, at bedtime, and after each bowel movement. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Wash and dry the affected anal area. Apply the ointment into the anus using the applicator provided and to the surface of the anus. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Topical corticosteroids may increase the risk of developing a skin infection. After long-term use, withdraw therapy with gradual tapering of dose. Do not stop abruptly. Although the side effects from using Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone Zinc) are uncommon and should not occur with ordinary use, there have been rare instances of irritation, bleeding from the rectum (the last several inches of the large intestine), and failure of therapeutic response.

In addition to its desired action, Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone Zinc) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause burning and itching of the skin, painful, red, or itchy pus-containing blisters in the hair follicles.
It may cause chills, diarrhea, fever, or infections.
It may cause rectal bleeding, burning, dryness, itching, or pain not present before treatment.
It may cause sensation of pins and needles, or stabbing pain.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone, zinc sulfate, or to any of the ingredients of the medication. Patients with tuberculosis (bacterial infection), fungal, bacterial, or viral infections of the skin should not use Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone Zinc).

Taking Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone Zinc) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone Zinc) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone Zinc)
