Description
Anodan HC Ointment (Hydrocortisone Zinc) is a corticosteroid. It is typically used to treat hemorrhoids (swollen veins in the rectum (the last several inches of the large intestine)). It may also be used to treat discomfort after surgery to the anal area (opening of the rectum outside of the body) and other conditions affecting the anal area. It works by reducing swelling, irritation, and itching. It may also have other uses.

Anodan HC Ointment (Hydrocortisone Zinc) is typically applied in the morning, at bedtime, and after each bowel movement. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Wash and dry the affected anal area. Apply the ointment into the anus using the applicator provided and to the surface of the anus. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Topical corticosteroids may increase the risk of developing a skin infection. Use a thinner layer or lesser quantity of medicine. Do not wash the treated area after immediately applying the ointment. Avoid the use of other products on the treated area unless directed by your doctor. In addition to its desired action, Anodan HC Ointment (Hydrocortisone Zinc) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause painful, red, or itchy pus-containing blisters in hair follicles It may cause burning and itching of skin, dry skin, loss of skin color, and thin, fragile skin. It may cause rectal bleeding, burning, dryness, itching, or pain not present before treatment, chills, infection, and fever. It may cause diarrhea, fever, sensation of pins and needles, and stabbing pain. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone, zinc sulfate, or to any of the ingredients of the medication. Patients with tuberculosis (bacterial infection), fungal, bacterial, or viral infections of the skin should not use Anodan HC Ointment (Hydrocortisone Zinc). Taking Anodan HC Ointment (Hydrocortisone Zinc) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Anodan HC Ointment (Hydrocortisone Zinc) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
