Additional information
Ifex (Ifosfamide)'s dosage depends on the condition, the response to therapy, other medications used, and body weight or size. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Ifosfamide will be given to you by the doctor or someone under direct supervision of the doctor in a hospital or similar setting with access to sterile equipment for preparation. It is injected intravenously (into the vein). Drink plenty of fluids (8 to 12 cups a day) on the day of your treatment and the day after your treatment. You should empty your bladder (urinate) every 2 hours while you are awake and at bedtime, and once during the night, for at least 24 hours after your last treatment. This helps to prevent bladder and kidney problems. WARNING: This medication can reduce the number of platelet cells in the blood. Platelets help the blood to clot, and a shortage could make you bleed more easily. Ifosfamide can reduce the number of cells that fight infection in the body (white blood cells). Avoid contact with people with contagious infections. It may cause kidney toxicity (nephrotoxicity), leading to kidney injury and failure. It may cause severe inflammation of the bladder resulting in bleeding (hemorrhagic cystitis). In addition to its desired action, Ifex (Ifosfamide) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause decrease in number of menstrual periods and temporary loss of hair (returns after treatments end, texture or color may change). It may cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, blurred vision, sores in mouth or on lips, and black, tarry stools or blood in stools. It may cause redness, swelling, or pain where medication has been injected, fast or irregular heartbeat, unusual tiredness, and confusion or agitation. It may cause fever or chills with cough or hoarseness and lower back or side pain with fever or chills. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ifosfamide or any component of the formulation, obstruction to the urine flow. Taking Ifex (Ifosfamide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Ifex (Ifosfamide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Ifex (Ifosfamide)
