Description
Lozide (Indapamide) is an antihypertensive agent. It is typically used for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema (swelling) in heart failure. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Lozide (Indapamide) is typically taken once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. May be administered without regard to meals, however, administration with food or milk may to decrease stomach and intestinal adverse effects. Administer early in day (in the morning) to avoid nocturia (a condition in which you wake up during the night because you have to urinate) WARNING: Severe hyponatremia (low blood sodium) with hypokalemia (low blood potassium) has been reported at recommended doses. In addition to its desired action, Lozide (Indapamide) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause hypokalemia (low blood potassium) It may cause cardiac arrhythmia (heart rhythm problems), chest pain, flushing, orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure that happens when you stand up from sitting or lying down), palpitations (racing heart) It may cause pruritus (itching), skin rash, urticaria (hives) It may cause decreased libido, glycosuria (high glucose levels in the urine), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), hyperuricemia (high blood uric acid), hypochloremia (low blood chloride), hyponatremia (low blood sodium), weight loss Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Indapamide or any component of the formulation or sulfonamide-derived drugs, anuria (failure of the kidneys to produce urine). Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Lozide (Indapamide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
