Description

Xylocaine Jelly (Lidocaine) is a local anesthetic (numbing medication) agent. It is typically used to help prevent pain and discomfort during certain medical tests and procedures. It is also used to help relieve the pain from inflammation of the urinary bladder and the urethra. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Xylocaine Jelly (Lidocaine)'s dosage depends on the application site (no more than four doses should be given during a 24-hour period). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. If possible, clean the affected area well, before each application of jelly. WARNING: Be careful driving or operating machinery after you have used or have been given Xylocaine Jelly. You may be drowsy and your reflexes may be slow. Avoid contact with eyes. EXCESSIVE DOSAGE, OR SHORT INTERVALS BETWEEN DOSES, CAN RESULT IN HIGH PLASMA LEVELS OF LIDOCAINE OR ITS METABOLITES AND SERIOUS ADVERSE EFFECTS. PATIENTS SHOULD BE INSTRUCTED TO STRICTLY ADHERE TO THE RECOMMENDED DOSAGE.
In addition to its desired action, Xylocaine Jelly (Lidocaine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause bradycardia (low heart rate), hypotension (low blood pressure).
It may cause lightheadedness, nervousness, euphoria (feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness), confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred or double vision, vomiting, sensations of heat, cold or numbness, twitching, tremors (shaking movement in your body), unconsciousness, tinnitus (sensation of noise (as a ringing or roaring)).
Contraindications: Patients with a known history of hypersensitivity to local anesthetics of the amide type or to other components in the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
A treatment with Xylocaine Jelly (Lidocaine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Xylocaine Jelly (Lidocaine)
