Description

Trajenta (Linagliptin) is an antidiabetic agent. It is typically used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control or blood sugar levels by adults with type 2 diabetes alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents (medication that treat high blood sugar level). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Trajenta (Linagliptin)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with or without food.

WARNING: Cases of acute pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), including death, have been reported with use. Monitor for signs and symptoms of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), discontinue use immediately if pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) is suspected and initiate appropriate management. Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) as it is not known if this population is at greater risk. Severe and disabling joints pain and problems has been reported. Severe allergies have been reported. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning.

In addition to its desired action, Trajenta (Linagliptin) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) and inflammation of the nose and pharynx.
It may cause muscle pain, skin allergies and water retention.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergy (e.g., severe allergy, water retention and bronchial allergy) to linagliptin or any component of the formulation. Use in type 1 diabetes mellitus (a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when your body produces high levels of blood acids)

Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
