Description
Saxenda (Liraglutide) is glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It is typically used to improve blood sugar levels by adults with type 2 diabetes (a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high). It is also used for chronic weight management in addition to reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity in adults who are overweight and have weight-related health problems, or who are obese. It may also have other uses.

Saxenda (Liraglutide) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer by subcutaneous (under the skin) injection into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm at anytime of day on the same day each week, with or without food. WARNING: Saxenda may cause pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), if pancreatitis is suspected, discontinue Saxenda and do not restart if confirmed. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. In addition to its desired action, Saxenda (Liraglutide) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause increased heart rate, acute kidney injury (sudden decrease in kidney function), hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level), headache. It may cause constipation, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, injection site pain, decreased appetite, acute pancreatitis (sudden inflammation of the pancreas). Contraindications: If you are allergic to liraglutide or any ingredients of the medication if you have a personal or family history of thyroid (gland in the neck) cancer, if you have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (a disease where people have tumors in more than one gland in their body), pregnancy. Taking Saxenda (Liraglutide) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Saxenda (Liraglutide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Saxenda (Liraglutide)
