Description

Kaletra (Lopinavir Ritonavir) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used to treat HIV (human immunodeficiency virus infection which is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system), the virus that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Kaletra (Lopinavir Ritonavir) is typically used as two tablets twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. May be taken with or without food. Swallow whole, do not break, crush, or chew. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with hemophilia A or B (rare bleeding disorders). Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, with increased triglycerides (type of fat in the blood). In addition to its desired action, Kaletra (Lopinavir Ritonavir) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause diarrhea, headache, weakness, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, drowsiness, dizziness
It may cause a bad taste in the mouth, trouble sleeping, skin rash, and changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your arms, legs, face, neck, breasts, and waist) It may cause liver damage, upper respiratory tract infections, increased blood pressure
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to lopinavir, ritonavir, or any component of the formulation, coadministration with drugs like alfuzosin, apalutamide, cisapride, dronedarone, elbasvir/grazoprevir, ergot derivatives [eg, dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, methylergonovine], lomitapide, lovastatin, lurasidone, oral midazolam, pimozide, ranolazine, rifampin, simvastatin, St John's wort, triazolam.
Taking Kaletra (Lopinavir Ritonavir) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Kaletra (Lopinavir Ritonavir) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor. A treatment with Kaletra (Lopinavir Ritonavir) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
