Description
Opsumit (Macitentan) is an antihypertensive agent. It is typically used alone and in combination with other medications to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). PAH is a condition in which there is high blood pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs that lead to the heart. It may also have other uses.

Opsumit (Macitentan) is typically given once a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Swallow the whole tablet. Do not split, crush, or chew tablets. Opsumit may be administered with or without food. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Women who may become pregnant must not take macitentan until pregnancy is ruled out. This medication may cause low levels of red blood cells (anemia), and fluid retention causing swelling. It may also reduce liver function. In addition to its desired action, Opsumit (Macitentan) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause headaches or anemia. It may cause flu-like symptoms (sudden lack of energy, fever, sore throat), a persistent cough, or a stuffy nose. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to macitentan or any component of the formulation. Pregnancy is contraindicated. Taking Opsumit (Macitentan) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Opsumit (Macitentan) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
