Description
Depo Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) is an contraceptive agent. It is typically used to prevent pregnancy and for the treatment of endometriosis (often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus grows outside your uterus). It may also have other uses.

DEPO-PROVERA is given as an injection by your healthcare professional. DEPO-PROVERA is injected deep into the muscles of your buttock or upper arm. WARNING: When used for contraception, the possibility of ectopic pregnancy (when the fertilized egg grows outside of the uterus) should be considered in patients with severe abdominal pain. Medroxyprogesterone should not be used as a long-term (for more than 2 years) contraceptive technique or for the management of endometriosis pain (where small pieces of the womb lining called the endometrium are found outside the womb), unless other treatments failed. This medication may increase your chances of developing blood clots. In addition to its desired action, Depo Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause heavier or longer menstrual periods, severe pain in your lower stomach It may cause swelling in your face, hands, ankles, and feet It may cause pain, bleeding, oozing (pus), or skin changes where the injection was given, depression It may cause sleep problems, weakness, mood changes Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to medroxyprogesterone or any component of the formulation, active thrombophlebitis (blood clot in the vein), thromboembolic disorders (e.g., stroke, heart attack), undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, breast cancer (known, suspected, or history of), significant liver disease, pregnancy, diagnostic test for pregnancy. Taking Depo Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Depo Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
