Description

Methazolamide (Methazolamide) is an antiglaucoma agent. It is typically used for the treatment of different types of glaucoma (a common eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged, and causes increased eye pressure). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Methazolamide (Methazolamide) is usually given two to three times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with or without food.

WARNING: may impair mental alertness or physical coordination, periodically monitor serum electrolytes and signs of low potassium in at risk patients. Use with caution in patients taking high dose aspirin concurrently, may lead to severe adverse effects. Use with caution in patients having liver and kidney problems. May cause severe allergic reactions. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. 

In addition to its desired action, Methazolamide (Methazolamide) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause confusion, drowsiness and fatigue.
It may cause a decreased appetite, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
It may cause electrolytes imbalance and allergic reactions.

Contraindications: Marked kidney or liver dysfunction, low sodium levels, low potassium levels, long-term treatment of certain type of glaucoma (common eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged)

Taking Methazolamide (Methazolamide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor.
