Description
Penthrox (Methoxyflurane) is an analgesic agent. It is typically used for short-term relief of moderate to severe acute pain (acute pain is experienced immediately or soon after an injury), associated with trauma (deeply distressing or disturbing experience) or interventional medical procedures, in conscious adult patients. It may also have other uses.

Penthrox (Methoxyflurane)'s dosage depends on the condition (maximum: 6 mL/day). The dose may change depending on the evolution of your disease. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Your healthcare professional will prepare the PENTHROX Inhaler and place the wrist loop over your wrist. Breathe in through the mouthpiece of the inhaler to obtain pain relief. Your healthcare professional will show you how if you are unsure. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. Use with caution in obese patients. Use with caution in the elderly, use lowest effective dose due to risk of nephrotoxicity (kidney) problems. In addition to its desired action, Penthrox (Methoxyflurane) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dizziness (weak or unsteady), headache, skin rash. It may cause anxiety (a feeling of worry), depression It may cause cough, back pain, somnolence (sleepiness). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to methoxyflurane, similar agents, or any component of the formulation, use as an anesthetic agent (agent that produces a local or general loss of sensation), kidney impairment, hemodynamic instability (instability in blood pressure which can lead to inadequate arterial blood flow to organs), respiratory impairment, altered consciousness due to any cause, including head injury, drugs, or alcohol, history of liver dysfunction after previous methoxyflurane or other similar agents, malignant hyperthermia (a severe reaction to certain drugs used for anesthesia) or genetic susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia or a history of severe adverse reactions in either patient or relatives. Taking Penthrox (Methoxyflurane) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
