Description

Mylan Naproxen Esomeprazole MR (Naproxen Esomeprazole modified-release) is a combination of a painkiller (Naproxen) and a drug that prevents acidity and acid reflux (Esomeprazole). It is typically used for the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis (different forms of arthritis or pain and inflammation of the joints), ankylosing spondylitis (long-term inflammation of the joints), and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (arthritis in children), in patients at risk of developing stomach ulcers (sores) when taking anti-inflammatory medications. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Mylan Naproxen Esomeprazole MR (Naproxen Esomeprazole modified-release) is typically given twice a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It should be taken at least 30 minutes before a meal. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush, break, or chew. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: This medicine should be used at the lowest dose and for the shortest time suitable for your condition. Long-term use (every day for a year or longer) may increase risks of broken bones of the hip, wrist or spine. It may interfere with the absorption of vitamin B12 from the diet, causing vitamin B12 deficiency. Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, avoid use in advanced kidney impairment. This medication may cause an increased risk of serious inflammation, bleeding, and perforation (may be fatal) in the stomach or intestines.

In addition to its desired action, Mylan Naproxen Esomeprazole MR (Naproxen Esomeprazole modified-release) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, headache, and dry mouth.
It may cause drowsiness, dizziness, and trouble sleeping.
It may cause a feeling of burning, prickliness, or numbing.
It may cause swelling of the extremities, which can lead to a high blood pressure. 

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to naproxen, esomeprazole, omeprazole, or any component of the formulation. Its use in the setting of CABG surgery (heart surgery) is contraindicated. Patients with a history of asthma (a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus), urticaria (hives), or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other painkillers should not use Mylan Naproxen Esomeprazole MR (Naproxen Esomeprazole modified-release). The co-administration with rilpivirine-containing products is not recommended.

Taking Mylan Naproxen Esomeprazole MR (Naproxen Esomeprazole modified-release) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
