Description
Habitrol (Nicotine) is a nicotine replacement therapy agent. It is typically used to help people quit smoking. It may also have other uses.

Habitrol (Nicotine) is typically given every time the smoker feels the need to smoke. To apply the patch, choose a dry hairless area above the waist or on the upper outer area of your arm, back or shoulders. After 24 hours, remove the patch and apply a new one to a different area. If you have difficulty sleeping, you may want to apply the patch first thing in the morning and remove it right before bedtime. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It can be given with or without food. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Do not use if you have a jaw disorder. Do not use it if you have generalized skin disorders. Use with caution if you have heart problems, lung problems, thyroid problems, high blood sugar levels. Remove the patch 2 hours before engaging in prolonged, strenuous exercise, as this may increase nicotine absorption through the skin and cause symptoms of nicotine overdose. In addition to its desired action, Habitrol (Nicotine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause headaches, nausea and difficulty sleeping. It may cause skin irritation, stomach upset and bad dreams. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to nicotine or any component of the formulation, do not use if you are under 18 years of age, do not use it if you are not a smoker. Taking Habitrol (Nicotine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product.
