Description
PMS Nitrofurantoin (Nitrofurantoin) is an antibiotic. It is typically used to treat urinary tract infections or bladder infections caused by certain types of bacteria. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
PMS Nitrofurantoin (Nitrofurantoin) is typically taken twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Nitrofurantoin should be taken with food to reduce the risk of stomach upset. Do not open the capsules. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Long-term use of Nitrofurantoin may cause it not to work anymore in the future (resistance), more bacteria and fungi to grow (superinfection), and bacteria that do not die (resistance). This medication may turn your urine a rust yellow or brown color, a normal effect. Use with caution in case of kidney impairment, liver impairment, and hemolytic anemia (a disorder in which red blood cells, which deliver oxygen to organs, are destroyed faster than they can be made) caused by G6PD deficiency (an inherited condition where the body doesn't have enough of an enzyme called G6PD, which helps red blood cells work correctly). In addition to its desired action, PMS Nitrofurantoin (Nitrofurantoin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, gas, headache, nausea, stomach pain, and vomiting. It may cause symptoms of low red blood cells (such as fatigue, weakness, decreased energy, or pale skin). It may cause symptoms of a lung reaction to the medication (such as fever, chills, cough, chest pain, or difficulty breathing). It may cause symptoms of nerve damage (such as tingling, burning, pain, or numbness in the arms and legs). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to nitrofurantoin or any component of the formulation, anuria (failure of the kidneys to produce urine), oliguria (peeing less than usual), or significant impairment of kidney function, previous history of cholestatic jaundice (when liver cells are unable to transport bilirubin (a yellowish pigment) either through the capillary membrane of the liver, causing the skin, whites of the eyes and other membranes to turn yellow), or liver dysfunction associated with prior nitrofurantoin used. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Do not use PMS Nitrofurantoin (Nitrofurantoin) if you are in labor or expect to go into labor soon (i.e. you are close to your due date). If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with PMS Nitrofurantoin (Nitrofurantoin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.PMS Nitrofurantoin (Nitrofurantoin)
