Pegasys (Peginterferon Alfa-2A)

Pegasys (Peginterferon Alfa-2A) is typically used once weekly. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. This medication is usually injected under the skin (subcutaneously) of the abdomen or thigh on the same day and at approximately the same time each week. Your medicine will usually be administered by a doctor or nurse or you may be shown how to give the injection yourself at home. It is usually injected into a skin fold in your abdomen (stomach), or the outer aspects of your thigh. It should not be injected into your muscles.
WARNING: Use with caution in patients cardiovascular (heart) problem. Use with caution in patients with kidney dysfunction, dosage adjustment recommended, monitor for signs/symptoms of toxicity. Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus (high blood sugar level). Use with caution in the elderly, certain adverse effects may be more severe.
In addition to its desired action, Pegasys (Peginterferon Alfa-2A) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause back pain, cough, fatigue, hair loss, diarrhea, dry, itchy skin, dry mouth.
It may cause fatigue, flu-like symptoms (unusual tiredness, fever, chills, muscle aches, joint pain, and headaches), hair thinning, loss of appetite, nausea.
Contraindications: If you are allergic to peginterferon alfa-2a, or any ingredients of the medication, autoimmune hepatitis (a chronic disease in which your body’s immune system attacks the liver and causes inflammation and liver damage), decompensated cirrhosis (liver disease).
Taking Pegasys (Peginterferon Alfa-2A) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Pegasys (Peginterferon Alfa-2A) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Pegasys (Peginterferon Alfa-2A)
