Description
Pentamidine (Pentamidine) is an antifungal agent. It is typically used to prevent and treat pneumonia (infection of the lungs) caused by Pneumocystis jiroveci (a fungus). It may also have other uses.

Pentamidine (Pentamidine) is typically used once daily. The dose may change depending on the evolution of your disease. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Pentamidine (Pentamidine) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Some patients may develop sudden, severe low blood pressure after a dose of pentamidine. Therefore, you should be lying down while you are receiving this medicine. Also, your doctor may want to check your blood pressure while you are receiving a pentamidine injection and several times after the dose has been given until your blood pressure is stable. In addition to its desired action, Pentamidine (Pentamidine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause renal insufficiency (poor function of the kidneys), hypotension, injection site reaction. It may cause confusion (lack of understanding), skin rash, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level). It may cause anorexia (lack or loss of appetite for food), nausea, leukopenia (decrease in the number of leukocytes that are a part of our immune system). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to pentamidine isethionate or any component of the formulation Taking Pentamidine (Pentamidine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Pentamidine (Pentamidine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
